Today is my 21st Wedding Anniversary! I thought I might as well put this on my blog. Since this is a personal blog, I don’t have to be so technical here. I can share with you a little bit of myself. Get to know me and I can get to know you more. Isn’t this is what social media is all about? I want to be able to relate with you and vice versa. I want you to be able to relate with me. I want to be approachable instead of looking like a “business-like” person all the time. Although, I am a very business minded person, I think it’s okay to share this.
In 21 years of my life with my husband, Tim and I went through thick and thin. I know that the divorce rate here in America is pretty high compare to other countries. They said 1 out of 3 marriages, end up in divorce! Um, that’s not a pretty good statistic. If it’s 1 out of 1 million, chances are prolly better. Anyway, I feel really blessed we have lasted this long!
Did you know that my husband was my first and the last blind date? I met him through a friend of a friend who has a brother. At the time, I was living in Silicon Valley and Tim lived in Fresno. My girlfriend asked me, “Um, do you want to date J’s brother? I said, “Who? S……!? No way!!! He’s too young!!” She said, “Noooooo…J got another brother and he lives in Fresno. “Oh!?” I was surprised to hear that. I know the McCall’s family and sometimes I’d see Pastor McCall in church. But I never knew there was another brother who lives in Fresno and was single. At the time, I have gotten a divorce and was living with my daughter A alone.
And so I agree to see this guy and my girlfriend & his friend J planned the dinner for us. The meeting would be in Cupertino Seventh-day Adventist church and after the church, we would all go to J’s house and jam. I mean, jam guitars. J thought I was a good match for his brother coz according to him, I’m Asian… *rolls eyes* I’m a Seventh-day Adventist and I play guitar. Tim have been dating all asian girls since his last divorce from his blond-haired wife and they’re non-adventist. And so his brother thought, Tim just went the opposite. From blond to brunnette. And so…
Before Tim and I met, J came over to my aparthment, took pictures of me and my daughter and showed it to his brother. His brother nod his head and so it’s algebra!
My girlfriend said, “If it didn’t work out you can always cut it off.” She talks as if he were a shoe, if I didn’t like the the way it fits, I can always toss it out. *laughs* And so the big day came when we were going to meet for the first time! I remember it was Spring of March 31, 1991 and I was wearing my purple-flowered dress in high-heels. As you can see on that video, my hair looked like in the 80’s. Every single woman then had big hair! Now that I see this video again it makes me laugh that I had “poofy” hair. Ewww. Glad we’re on straight hairs now!
J said, “So yeah…we’re gonna be at church and my brother looks just like me!” I said, “Okay, I’ll meet you guys there on Sabbath.” So I was ready to meet this guy. Parked my car. Feeling a little nervous. Not too much, I feel pretty confident that day. When I got inside the church, I started looking for a guy that looks just like J. Stretching my neck as far as I could during the first break of the service. Everyone was in the lobby, mingling. Talking. I saw my girlfriend, J, and J’s wife (A). But I didn’t see his brother. When I greeted my girlfriend, I gave her a hug. I gave J & A a hug then he said, “This is my brother, Tim.” Whooooooaaa!!! I thought he said his brother looks just like him! No, they don’t really look alike. Tim looked much better looking than he does! So now I started to get nervous but not too nervous. Tim was pretty talkative. He made me feel at ease by telling me jokes. In church, he kept whispering in my ear then we would laugh. Then whispered again in my ear…there goes another laugh…A said, “Ssssshhhhh…children!” Haha…
After the service, we all went to J & A’s house. They cooked dinner for us. My girlfriend was there too. We ate then jam together with J & Tim playing the guitar while all of us were singing. The next time I talked to my girlfriend she asked, “So, how did it go?” I said, “I am dating superman!” At the time, Tim was wearing that big ol’ glasses as you can see in the picture. He didn’t change the frame on his glasses til only a couple of years ago. He wore that glasses that made him looked like Superman. At that time, I was a big fan of Christopher Reeves and loved his Superman movie. I thought Tim looked just like Superman. *big smile* And since then it’s history!
NOTE: I created this video on our 14th Wedding Anniversary. So sorry, I’m so behind in creating videos about us. But I will eventually create a new one. So for now just settle on this one.
