“I better write this down while my juice is flowing!
It’s 8:00 o’clock in the morning and I always don’t get up this early. Yeah right. I’m nocturnal. And so I sleep late and get up late. But I get into a habit of picking up my iPhone everytime I wake up. It’s like a routine to me. Can’t live without my iPhone. First thing I do is glance out all my applications and lo and behold, Linkedin prompted me there were 8 messages waiting. Of course out of curiosity I clicked and it lead me to the Marketing Communication community.
Dr. Brian asked a question in the community:
What do you think are the biggest marketing challenges today and why?
There were a lot of comments on there and didn’t comment at all until I saw some of the comments below. What they said there triggered my interest and so my juice started flowing. Here’s what they said:
Shirley S, Integrated Marketing Professional, said:
“How to tailored the marketing messages and use the right channel to reach the specific group of audience using a creative way. The problem is there are too many messages out there and audience has too little time. How to gain attention and arouse interest is very difficult. Besides, consumers today are far more complicated and demand a lot more than in the past. With the high popularity of internet, a lot of us have seen and exposed to many many messages around the world. To gain the audience attention becomes more and more difficult.”
Karen K, Corporate Affairs Intern at Cadbury India LTD, said:
“Amidst all the confusion and desperation to draw more traffic to your product, the most basic design of keeping things simple is forgotten. The consumer may not always remember the most efficient product as fraction of time that is available to make a product visible to the consumer is evidently very low. In the now ‘Cluttered Markets’ the key point should be to keep your product and its design to draw consumers — SIMPLE as every other marketer is only desperately keen on coming up with the most creative pitch for their products thereby losing sight of the important aspect of allowing the prospect to ‘Retain & Remember’ the product. In the war against proposing the most ‘Creative and Innovative’ pitch for your brand, it is often the most Simple approach that stands out. I hope that made sense.”
Gaurav P, Online Media Consultant, said:
“A marketer’s primary role is to influence the customer. I agree with all those who’ve said there’s a lot of noise out there. That’s because marketers assume reaching the customers is same as influencing them. Social has changed marketing forever and those who focus on quantity over engagement are just creating more noise.”
Do you see how ugly this kind of speech in your marketing strategy? The newsletter or blog that has too much static or too loud are often ignored and it’s perfectly irritating. If this irritates me, I am sure this irritates others too! You heard when people say, “Simplicity is Beauty!” You know when I had Kahlua (german shepherd dog) and Frosty (poodle) together, the little poodle barks a lot. For every little movement he would barked at it and oftentimes, I ignored him because it means nothing. However, when Kahlua barks, I know the big german shepherd means BUSINESS!!! That is something more to catch my attention. So make it simple, personal, and sociable that will engage your readers!
Mind you, when I first saw the title on the subscription box of Adrienne Smith as an “Engagement Superstar” I asked myself, “What is this really mean? Does it mean she is engage to be married?” Or what. Although I am not new to blogging…Remember, I am still new to marketing and that’s not really my expertise. The real reason behind why I included “marketing” strategy in my blog topic is…in every entrepreneur business-minded people like me, you can never ever ignore marketing because that is the “backbone” of our product. A business that doesn’t know about marketing it’s like walking without a spine. Do you see what I’m saying?
And so I commented in this community:
I think establishing your “social engagement” is extremely important. This is one of the BEST way to get your potential customer’s attention. A lot of people are selling you this and that and asking for money for the eBooks the moment you signed up on their newsletter. To me this is a big turned OFF. I’m already bombarded with a bunch of “hey subscriber check out my product we are so good” rather than being more personal and creating a conversation with you and ENGAGE themselves in simple matters.
Sure, social media has change marketing. Those people who shove their products to you right away the moment you signed up their newsletter gets DELETED right away and I’m more likely to click UNSUBSCRIBE. Just think about how you like to be treated is the same way other people wants to be treated. Put your shoes into their shoes, if this type of marketing annoys you, it is more likely to annoy others too. This is social media, isn’t it? Therefore ENGAGE yourself first. That’s one level that increase your position as AUTHORITY then selling other products is more likely to be accepted than rejected.
Have you ever tried subscribing an email newsletter to Adrienne Smith, Steve Scott, and Rob Cubbon? All of their newsletter to me are very PERSONAL and ENGAGING. No upsells hype of some sort other than they point you back to their blog to read more valuable content that might benefit you. Varieties of FREE eBooks are introduced. And before you buy another product, you already know what you’re getting. If the free eBooks sucks, therefore the real thing sucks too!
You know a newsletter that’s full of ad sales hype doesn’t thrill me at all. To me I experienced ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) whenever I see newsletter with full of advertisements after they tell you what’s going on in their newsletters. It’s like seeing the MacMall’s email newsletter. Seeing a catalog of some sort. It becomes very impersonal. Don’t get me wrong, I love MacMall for shopping things like extra hard drive (i.e. 2T hard drive for $69), they have great offers. But I know what they’re up to and I know that they are like an online magazine catalog that delivers on my email. But for those business entrepreneurs, people like you and me, who tries to engage with our audience, who tries to establish repertoire, these kind of things doesn’t work!
I didn’t comprehend what online marketing was all about until I started reading more about it. In fact, I have just learned what is “backlinks” is all about and how the “dofollow” vs. “nofollow” makes a huge difference.
You see, a graphic designer friend of mine in Australia told me about this plugin Pretty Link. She said, “Google dropped my Adsense account about a year ago for no reason. I was earning approx $100 a month, so nothing to worry about. Since I have no Adsense ads, I make more money on affiliate sales than 5c clicks.” And so when we were discussing about the Adsense she suggested to me to use Pretty Link. How does it work? Well, just create “add new link” and put your affiliate product link into this Pretty Link and click “nofollow” and Google will never know that you have affiliate product links. Google HATES affiliate products! And so if you are applying for the Adsense and they see you have other affiliate products on there, they will NEVER approve your application.
(NOTE: I do not intend to have Adsense on my blog, ever. I have other reasons)
With that in mind, I started to click the “nofollow” in ALL of the hyperlink text I have in the Pretty Link including the friends and successful bloggers that I’m talking about or included in my blog. So now I have to UNDO all the “nofollow” button on these hyperlinks I have referred to EXCEPT my affiliate products. So what I’m saying is…I am learning a lot on marketing strategy. The Google page ranking, the SEO, the SERP, and so forth.
So far I’ve purchased 5 of Steve Scott’s eBooks and here are the two of them below. For the cost of a cup of coffee of EACH of these eBooks the price is a steal. On the other hand, premium members can get these eBooks for FREE at Amazon.

Disclaimer: Currently, I have been affiliated with Amazon Associates and so I’ve installed the Amazon Search on my sidebar. If you enter the title of the books there I’ll be compensated for it. But I don’t know what kind of revenue I’m getting here. I’m pretty brand new. I just got excited that I finally became affiliated with Steve Scott’s eBooks because I believe in him and his products.
