I want to say that I am inspired to write this post by reading How to Get Clients by Rob Cubbon. I know that there’s a way to get clients here on Linkedin or just the Internet per se. But the best way to get clients is the Meetup group. Nothing beats face-to-face! Right?
For those of you (Designers, Artists, Writers, etc.) who are discouraged to see how Fiverr, Elance, PeoplePerHour…how they charge graphic designs real dirt cheap, well…I’m telling you that the best way to create *REAL* income for yourself is to meet face-to-face!
There are tons of business entrepreneurs that do not have a website. Or some of them just need to maintain their websites which they do not have time to do for themselves.
Although I am very thrilled about my business here online…
I cannot rely on my Affiliate Products unless I have tons of traffic coming from. Like 30K-50K a month. That type of traffic. That’s really the right time to sell more affilate products. But while you’re building your business and presence here online, the best way to create connections is the Meetup group. Ever since I started coming to Meetup groups, I gained more connections!
I’ve connected to people who need WordPress websites, SEOs, or just the Graphic Design per se. You can do this in your own niche! Don’t rely too much on social media because they can be unpredictable. The best way to diversify your business is — do not put your eggs in one basket. I’m sure you heard this saying before but this is very true.
If one fails, you still have the other that keeps you intact.
My Meetup in California:
- Fresno Successful Thinkers Network Business Networking
- eWomen Network Accelerated Networking Event
- Lets “Connect the Dots Network Business Mixer” (new)
- Fresno/Clovis Female Business Owners (new)
- Fresno Tech Women Meetup (new)
- Central ValleyFemale Business Owners (new)
- Fresno Writers Group (new)
The first two Meetup group I have on there, I have been coming to their events for almost a year now and so far so good. It’s been very productive for me. I have met business entrepreneurs who needs a website for their business. Many have asked me if I do SEO also. I think combining your Design & SEO is a good way. Just tell them that you’re not only designing websites but also you do other services such as: SEO, Printing, Business Cards, Logo Designs, etc.
It’s good for a Designer to be versatile. Never ever turn down a job. You can always outsource this and negotiate with others as far as job is concerned.
So far, you can see that I have added five *new* ones there which I haven’t attended yet but want to make connections with others as far as networking is concerned. So these groups I recently joined are still in progress. So far so good, I’m very encourage and enthuse to meet more friends and to get to know more people in the business industry here in Fresno, California.
Sharing my Meetup experience with you…
When I attended the eWomen Network Accelerated Networking Event I have met the manager of Pardini’s restaurant where they held their meetings there every once-a-month. She told me that she needed to contact me and that they need a website.
And so far I am working on the follow-up on this one.
…then I have a couple of people who also stated that they need websites. One started a podcast or channel to broadcast her business. Others are just women who just want to upgrade their websites into a blog. There are so many jobs available out there.
You just have to look at the right places, at the right time. The saying which states, “It’s really not what you know but who you know” is still very true.
On the Fresno Successful Thinkers Network Business Networking or sometimes they called themselves as “Like-Minded Professionals” I have met a couple of potential clients who needs websites as well. One is into this revitalize your skin underneath product and the other is a business entrepreneur of some sort.
When I went to the last Meetup group meeting, I have actually met a woman who was sitting next to me. We started talking and she asked me, what I do for a living. I said, “I’m a graphic designer. I have been doing graphic designs since the late 80’s. But I stopped for a little while because during job recession, our contract got terminated then I got discouraged. And so I tried to get into the medical field.”
“While it was very productive for me being in the medical field,” I continued, “and I passed some of the top notch assignments there was, I don’t think I was meant to be in this industry. So I went back into graphic design again. Started my business online in January 2013. And now I am doing WordPress design.”
She asked, “WordPress? You do WordPress…we need a graphic designer!” Right there. I have created a new contact. We exchanged business cards. Then later on we exchanged emails. She showed me their websites and now I am following through all this.
So I feel very hopeful and elated with all of these.
The church is another great place how to get new clients…
Recently, I have done a client presentation on one of the people I knew at church. I know that I haven’t been very active in church lately. And that’s because I didn’t have a car of my own. But now I do have a vehicle where I can attend church on a regular basis. But don’t get me wrong, that’s not the main reason why I’d like to attend church on a regular basis.
As it states in the bible it says, “Do not abandon your church gathering…” I’d like to connect with like-minded individuals who states the same belief with me. And plus, it’s good to come to church once-a-week at least. It rejuvenates my soul when I hear the Word of God.
Anyway, as to what I’m saying…perhaps the church is one of the best place to establish your repertoire because if this is about building trust then the church is one of the appropriate place to do business to those who are like-minded like yourself as far as belief and business is concerned.

Hello everyone this is Angela from angelamccall.com. It’s still very hot here in Fresno and so my air condition and fans are blasting and so if you see my hair blowing, that’s because my fans are blowing. It’s still very hot and humid in Fresno. I can’t wait till Winter comes.
Today, I’d like to discuss about “How to Get Clients”. I would like to share with you my experience on this one. I have been wanting to talk about this but I wasn’t so sure when I was going to say something a little bit about this.
I wrote something a post “How to Get Clients”.
I know that social media or your business online on the Internet is one of one way to get clients. But in order to do that you have to have a lot of traffic and make sure that you are expose in different social media before you can even pick up clients because you need to establish trust and people have to trust you. And people have to see you more often. However, the best way to get clients is to meet them face-to-face.
Nothing beats face-to-face!
So, one of the things that inspired me to write this post is, when I read the book by Rob Cubbon — How to Get Clients — I put the link on my post. One of the greatest thing to get meet client is on Meetup group, or church. Also, cold calling on the yellow pages. Or do what you are doing already — Internet connection which is social media and your blog.
But let me tell you on this Meetup group it’s always been positive…the Meetup group is always been positive and it’s always been good whenever I go there, I always meet the right kind of people.
Many of these Meetup groups have luncheon and they have guest speaker. Also, in one of the Meetup group that I attended that eWomen Network is, you have to introduce yourself, we exchange business cards, we ask each other what do we need for the next 30-days and we share our experience with them and I believe that’s what networking is all about, so we help each other.
So anyways, the latest Meetup group that I’ve been to is Like-Minded Professionals. And they have it every Tuesday. I know I haven’t been there for awhile, and so I wasn’t expecting much. But lo and behold, I was sitting next to this woman and she started talking to me.
And she asked what do I do for a living and I said, “Well, I’m a graphic designer. And I’m just starting my business online last January 2013.” And so I told her that I’ve been trying to get into the medical field because I was laid off and got discouraged and I was off doing graphic design for like 10-years.
But to make the long story short, I told that it wasn’t meant to be.
And so now I’m back to doing graphic design again. So when I came back, a lot of things have changed, technology have changed, and now I’m doing graphic design in WordPress.
And she said, “Wordpress? You do WordPress? We need a graphic designer! We are in WordPress.” And so there, right there, I made a contact. And I thought…WOW…that was so fast.
I wasn’t expecting that you know…I was just thinking I was going to enjoy the meeting. Guest speaker. Meet a whole bunch of different people. But right there, I made a contact. So we exchange business cards and we exchange emails and now I’m following it through.
So, the best place to get clients is the Meetup groups.
So why don’t you try it. Next time you know, if you see something a Meetup group in your area, maybe you might want to attend. Or if you don’t have any Meetup group in your niche, maybe you can start one. You can start your own Meetup group. So that’s what I wanted to say a little bit for today.
Anyways, I’ll talk to you later. And give me your feedback and make sure don’t forget to subscribe to my channel. Okay. Thank you. Bye.
