Last night I end up reading till 4:00 in the morning!
You read it right. I was reading Make A Killing On Kindle last night and I couldn’t put down the book. I just kept on reading it. At first, I downloaded the sample but end up buying it. What intrigues me is the killer title with a killer curiosity on my part. What did he mean when he said sell a kindle book…
Without Blogging, Facebook, or Twitter
I have been reading a lot of books about my business. Since last month and this month I have collected 28 books on my kindle. And 4 of them are about how to write a book on kindle, how to publish it, and how to sell it. Have you ever seen or read this book? It’s one of the top books on Amazon. I read 4 chapters and I would’ve kept on reading if I didn’t end up sleeping before it.
I was going to post this article on Facebook but I decided to make a special post about this on my blog. Since some of my friends have written a book for kindle, or in the process of writing a kindle book, and some have promoted their book on their blog, I thought I’d share these thoughts with you. I’m still puzzled. Curious to finish this book to the end.
Listen to this…
He said, “Before I show you the convincing evidence that social media cannot sell an unknown author’s book to save its life, I want to clarify a misconception. Despite what you hear, building a social media network isn’t easy or fun. I run five blogs (for PDF ebook downloads) and four Twitter and Facebook accounts (for various non-book clients). I also teach blogging workshops. So when I tell you that social media is the most frustrating, time consuming, energy-sucking, life-draining, stick-a-spoon-up-your-burn experience you can think of, I am saying it from a posititon of expertise.”
There were 289 reviews on this book and it’s rated 4 1/2 stars.
If there were only 54 reviews there about this book, I would’ve just ignored this. But there were 289 reviews! And so I had to read their reviews one by one…till I fell asleep. And in fact after I fell asleep, I end up dreaming these reviews! I saw them all in my dreams and I was reading them in big letters.
Yeah, dreams are crazy and a lot of fun…
I am curious to know what you have to say about what he just said there. I only have one hour to write about this article. And by 4:00 o’clock, I need to cook dinner. I wasn’t going to publish this but I decided I should go ahead and publish this around 5:00 o’clock and stimulate a question that might intrigue your mind. I am looking for an answer. I want to write a kindle book that I could give away to my readers just by signing my email list. I am not thinking about selling a book but giving a book for free.
Another thing he said…
Let me give you an example that will put you off social media forever. I’ve been selling ebooks off my blogs for years now (they download as PDF files). After three years of intense work, the biggest blog in my portfolio attracts 25,000 unique visitors a month. That would be great if every one of those visitors were there to buy my books. But they aren’t. They go to my blog to get information and be entertained. Do you know how many of those visitors actually go from my blog posts to the book page? About 5,000 a month. And that’s only because I was smart enough to create a landing page with 3,000 words of ad copy. Let’s do the math.
Read it and weep. After three years of hard work I sell 50 PDF ebooks a monthh off my blog. That’s less than two a day. But it would be even worse if, instead of selling PDFs, I sold my Kindle books. Why? Because only 8-10% of the U.S. population owns a Kindle e-reader. That means 90% of the people who go to my blog DON’T OWN A KINDLE AND COULDN’T BUY MY BOOKS EVEN IF THEY WANTED TO.
Now, this book was printed in 2012. There is a printed version and the kindle version. And this is the latest update of his kindle version. I’m not sure if I fully agree with him. Remember last time I said on my post HERE that 2013 will be the year for responsive design. “The sales of PC have been decline in the market in the year 2012. And that’s because people are buying Tablets or iPads. For one thing, they are cheaper than the laptops and/or desktop computers. Tablet sales are expected to exceed 100 million this year.” And on every tablets, ipads, and smartphones, they have Kindle application where you can read all your kindle books. And so I cannot put the two and two together.
This remains a puzzle to me. What do you think?
It’s almost time to cook dinner for me. And I said I was only going to give myself an hour to write this. This is the raw content. I haven’t edited none of this. Because I feel like in such a rush. I want to hear your opinion about this. Those who have written your books, or in the process of publishing your books through Amazon, give me your feedback.
…and perhaps enlighten my mind if what he said there makes any sense at all.
You know I’m a big believer of social engagement through blogging, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Linkedin. Now the author, Michael Alvear, just said the opposite of this. And I don’t know what to believe. Since he has more experience than me, he’s been online longer than me, he’s written bizillion books and I have written none, of course…I feel more persuaded on what he has to say. But I want to hear what you have to say. What do you think about this? Do you think this is all true and do you think what he said is relevant to the present time of TODAY?
This book is kind of controversial and yet rich in information that makes you think “out of the box.” It’s very mind intriguing and so far, this is the only book that makes me think more.
