Why aren’t you taking advantage on the FREE online advertising for your Business?
In my recent Meetup group at the Central Valley Female Business Owners, I have the privilege to meet Linda on a one-to-one basis. We’ve talked for hours! And for four hours time went by so quickly.
Did you know that networking offline is the same way you do it online? Except the only difference is the tool you use. In an offline networking you go to a Meetup group meeting and do it as often as possible. The more constant your attendance the better it is. Because the more people see you the more you build your repertoire. Just to make sure that you’re not one of these businesses who comes and go. You show them that you are serious with your business. And you are serious on establishing a relationship.
On the other hand, the online networking you use your website by blogging your business. Then you visit other blogs and leave valuable comment. Not just a one line saying, “Hey! Your blog is awesome!” Or “That was a great post!” I mean you really leave a valuable comment. With me, it’s very easy for me to leave 300-words comment. That’s because I really pour my heart & soul when I leave a comment.
Like in an online marketing, you want to establish your one-on-one relationship with a business owner and/or entrepreneur. Get your head out of the gutter on making money first because if you know your VISION and your “tangible values” money always follows.
I’ll give you an example of a very bad networking in an offline world. Few months ago I went to the CVFBO Meetup and I was sitting beside this girl which I have never seen in my life. Like they say at eWomen Network, they always encourage you to *not* sit with your friends or the people you already know. Sit with someone you didn’t know yet. Get to know the person on your left and on your right.
Anyway, after we all introduce ourselves in that table we exchange business cards. As usual, you put your email address in that business card, right? When I got home this girl on my right which I didn’t know yet, emailed me selling her product. Not only I find this very spammy, how dare she included my email address without asking me first! Right away my business colleague asked me, “Do you know this girl? She has a horrible network marketing approach! Trying to sell me her products right away without knowing me first.”
I answered back, “I think I know who you’re talking about! She actually emailed me selling her product. And I didn’t even know she was a doctor. She could’ve approach us in a personal level and tell us that she was a doctor in a community instead of selling her husband’s product!” With this type of marketing I often get annoyed, delete them and blacklist their email address in my spam folder.
Do you see what I’m saying? The cold marketing approach of yesterday doesn’t work on a marketing strategy of today. Today, it is more personal and before they buy something from you, they’d like to see more than once. They like to engage with you. Get to know them. And don’t just shove your product in someone’s throat. How tacky is that! We are in the era of social media. The more personal you get the better you are!
In Don Purdum’s book of The Shift, he said the following mass marketing are:
- TV commercials
- Radio commercials
- Billboards on the highway
- Ads in the airport
- On websites
- On online videos
- On grocery carts
- On the sides of vehicles
- In the mail
Unless you have mainly subscribe to such email marketing like the MacMall for instance (which I’m currently in) and all they do is send me their latest gadgets and products like a catalogue, this type of email marketing to your prospect clients or customers just doesn’t work! You have to work on a personal level.
And how do you work on a personal level? You have to create a Newsletter that tells them more about you on a personal approach. For instance, you mention your latest vacation, your frustrations on this business, your favorite food…anything as long as you don’t get too personal like you’re telling your audience every gory details about your life. Enough information about you so they can relate with you.
We are in the new era of marketing. Engagement. Network relationship.
They want to know the person whom they are buying the product from. Also, another tool you can use online is Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and so forth.
Big companies such as Apple Computer, Starbucks, Coca-cola…just to name a few could afford the mass marketing. But for us, small business owners, we can’t afford to lose money. We don’t have that kind of money to waste on such advertisements! We are better off concentrating on word-of-mouth or referrals.
And so let me ask you…
Are you still stuck on the antiquated media of Mass Marketing? If you are a small business owner, you cannot afford advertising on TV, magazine, and newspapers. Our Marketing trend changed tremendously and now it is proliferated on the Internet. Did you know you can do FREE advertising your business through BLOGGING and using the Social Media like Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus? So tell me.
