Last time when I went to the like-minded professionals MEETUP group of Fresno Successful Thinkers, the speaker asked, “Do you know your why’s?” And so I raised my hand and said, “I believe your Why’s should be focused on what is your tangible values because if you are CLEAR about your business, you can easily identify your TARGET market.” Then he asked again, “What did you just say?” And so I repeated what I have just said. It must be that important to him the word “tangible values” if he asked me to repeat it again.
If you have read Don Purdum’s book “The Shift” you will have the idea exactly what I’m talking about. So let me explain to you. The Shift talks about the old ways of Mass Marketing such as Television, Radio, Billboard, Newspapers, and Magazines…the kind of advertising that’s been proliferated in the past which only big companies such as Coca-cola, Apple Computer, Starbucks (you name it) can only afford. Whereas, small businesses like us cannot afford to lose that type of money. But we now have a better alternative, thanks to the new technology of today. Things can be possible…
From Mass Marketing to Context Marketing. Welcome to Blogging on the Internet!
You don’t really make money through blogging alone but you use your blog to relate with your audience and introduce your product or service. In Today’s World, you can be more personal and having that engagement with your audience is number one. Versus in the past, they bombarded you with ads after ads on the radio, commercials after commercials on TV, which is too impersonal and can be very annoying at times because all you want to do is to listen to a good program or watch a great sitcom.
So how can you have a clear VISION of your business?
What you do is not the vision you are attempting to see. That is what you do for a living. Your vision must be something that can make you a difference in this world. How can your service or product be a solution to someone else’s problem? That is the big question.
And as of today, I still don’t know exactly if I have the right vision for my business. And so I am contemplating this a lot. I admit I do need Don Purdum to help me clarify my vision. I have read his book twice and still I don’t know my tangible values. I’m not saying I’m dumb. But sometimes you just need to work with somebody to pull you out of your shells and work out of the box.
Steve Scott said you don’t need to have several niches in order to make six-figures. All you need is to concentrate in just one niche. He has done it and he is a living proof. I believe Don Purdum believe in sticking out with just one niche to work on. And so as Ryan Biddulph who is pretty successful blogging from paradise! All of these successful entrepreneurs have the same thing in common.
Drop your other blogs and focus on just one niche!
If you are one of these bloggers who have several blogs and several niches at the same time and still become successful, hallelujah!! Kudos to you!! But not all of us can do that. Reading 5-blogs a day and commenting on 5-blogs a day can really take a toll in your life. Let alone you have 2-8 different blogs going on. Bringing the traffic to your blog alone is a full time job itself. If you have a marketing crew who can help you draw traffic to your blogs, so be it. But majority of us are solopreneurs and me, myself, and I are the only person working on our blog by itself. So it’s better to concentrate on just one niche.
Then when your 1st blog is going smoothly and the traffic is doing fine and you’re making money from it, then perhaps it’s about time to start a 2nd blog. But then you can’t do this alone either. You’re going to need either a Virtual Assistant or a Marketing Crew of some sort to help you finish the job. One person alone is not enough to do all the job in demand. This is when you start your Empire Network. Right?
You must concentrate on the right target market!
When I first started blogging, I used to read every single blog. It didn’t matter if this is about graphic design, marketing, relationship, diet & wellness, you name it. But now although I do have a fair amount of traffic, I realize I wasn’t concentrating on the right target market.
And because I am not clear with my VISION and do not really know what my tangible values are and so therefore, it is harder for me to have that clarity. When you are clear with your vision, you are clear to do your execution. Make sense? So let me ask you, do you have a clear vision of your business? Do you know your target market? How is your business become a solution to someone else’s problem?
And do you know your why’s?
Why do you do the things that you do? Can you elaborate to me the WHY’s in your business? If you can share with me your thoughts and vision about your business, please share with me in the comments below. I’m anxious to hear from you!
